TOXEMIA
DIARRHEA IN CATTLE
Is caused by

• Digestive infections in general
• Endotoxic coliform mastitis in early lactation
• Winter dysentery due to coronavirus
• Poor quality feed ingredients

It affects

• high yielding diary cows
• cows during latter part of housing period

TREATMENT OF TOXEMIA/DIARRHEA IN CATTLE
Treatment is empirical and based upon symptoms until cause of disease has been established. Water and electrolyte losses are corrected and oral supplement of, e.g., activated charcoal and tannic acid are indicated for binding foreign substances and contracting the damaged enteric mucosa.

1 tube twice daily until normal condition of adult cattle
1/2 tube twice daily until normal condition of 400-800 lbs. cattle
1/4 tube twice daily until normal condition of 200-400 lbs. cattle
2 squeezes of paste into milk until normal condition of young calves
